[October 23, 2007] - The Erin
Mills S.C. U14 Boys capped off a dream season by being named the Team of the
Year in the FINAL Edition of the 2007 GetGame TERRA Power Rankings (TPR).
Not only did this group go undefeated in league play to take the Ontario
Youth Soccer League (OYSL) title, they also won the provincial Championships
in September and the National Club Championships held in earlier this month
in St. John's NL.
The girls team of the year are the Oshawa
Kicks S.C. U17 Girls. They had an undefeated regular season to capture the
OYSL East Division and defeated the OYSL overall champions from Dixie S.C. to
take the title of Ontario Cup provincial champions.
Erin Mills S.C. can also claim the title of
overall TPR Club of the year. Their 33 Competitive teams (ages 12 to 18)
took home 14 local tournament titles (as recorded by Tournament Central) and two
Ontario Cup championships. This record also helped Erin Mills to the title
of Performance Club of the Year. Ottawa South United was named Community Club of
the Year.
The regional teams of the year both came from
the Under 13 age group. The Newmarket United Lasers of the Central Girls
Soccer League (CGSL) captured this award on the girls side, thanks largely to
their Ontario Cup championship victory. This feat was matched on the boys
side by the Oakville Raiders of the South Region Soccer League (SRSL).
Other awards:
District Team of the Year (Level 4 or lower):
Boys - Brantford BIC Under-18 (SRSL)
Girls - Barrie Spirit Under-16 (CGSL)

The rankings are based predominantly on
performance in league play. The level at which the team plays is also a
significant factor. All leagues and divisions are given a relative weighting
based on their place in the
OSA Pyramid of Play and the performance of it's teams in tournament and
Ontario Cup competition.
It is still too soon to tell how
the new Pyramid of Play structure will affect the rankings, but we will keep a
close eye on the trends and welcome comments about the placement of the new
leagues.
Tournament, Ontario Cup & League Cup results will also play a large
part in the rankings. In order for these results to be included, they have
to be submitted through the
Tournament
Central website. If you have not already done
so, check it out and make sure your results are entered. Data will be included
in upcoming rankings if the results are submitted properly.
The format and rules for the
rankings are pretty much unchanged from 2006. The only significant update is
with the definition of the Club rankings. In 2006 we used the term 'Development
Club' to recognize larger community clubs that combined competitive teams with
an extensive program (i.e. A, B & C teams) to server their community. TPR
received some feedback from clubs that did not meet the criteria set out in the
rankings but still felt they were doing their part as a 'Development Club'.
We realized that we are not able
to adequately collect the information that would truly rate an organization as a
'Development Club'. Development is more that just having teams at a lot of
different levels for a child to play on, it's about training and philosophies
and standards - things that are difficult to quantify.
So, in an effort to prevent the
misuse of the term 'Development', TPR has renamed this category to 'Community
Club'.
As always, I
welcome comments, so you can provide feedback at
tpr@getgame.ca.
Please be aware that I can not always respond to everyone, so I suggest you remember
the following before writing in:
- ONLY stats collected as of June 30, 2006 are included in this edition - Read the
About page, which gives an overview of how the rankings are prepared.
- Check Tournament
Central to see if your Tournament,
Ontario Cup and/or League Cup results were entered correctly.
- Results of exhibition games are NOT considered.
Thank you for
your continuing support of the TPR and youth soccer in Ontario.
